About Us

A Collective History

Established in 1967, Maywood Park was “born out of conflict” when residents banded together, standing in opposition to the Oregon Highway Commission and its plan to build I-205, destroying over 85 homes in the process. The city’s formation was shaped by tension and disagreement, but also by a fierce, imperfect, and enduring care for place and one another.

A Shared Present

Today, Maywood Park’s strength lies in the everyday ways neighbors show up for each other—through neighborhood walk conversations, shared tools, block parties, and late-night texts. While the city holds tightly to its independence, it’s also deeply intertwined with the people, schools, and organizations just beyond its borders.

A Vibrant Future

Maywood Park can be a place where everyone feels they belong: where longtime neighbors, new arrivals, and those yet to come have a place in the story we’re creating together. A place rooted in care, where connections grow across generations, where gardens are shared and laughter carries through the trees. Its future can be shaped not just by what we preserve, but by how we welcome, include, and imagine together.

"We’re all on a journey - each ones of us. And if we can be sensitive to the person who happens to be our neighbor, that, to me, is the greatest challenge as well as the greatest pleasure"
